OUR RESPONSIBILITY

ESG & impact

Today, around 50 million tons of side streams from processing are undervalued or discarded.

Our very existence is based on solving this global challenge.

Locally produced and sourced

Today, around 50 million tons of side streams from processing are undervalued or discarded. Our very existence is based on solving this global challenge. We know that with local sourcing and production, we can make the most of our shared resources anywhere in the world.

In addition, fresh raw materials taste better. That’s another reason to keep close to the source. One example is our powders, made minutes after capture on board the fishing vessel. Drying at such an early stage means no transportation of frozen goods, which holds enormous amounts of water. By transporting powder instead, we lower the need for transportation by up to 80%. The result is higher quality and lower CO2 emissions.

Carefully harvested flavors

In 2022, you could find seafood ingredients from Seagems in more than four billion meals worldwide. They were made from more than 7000 tons of residual raw materials. Preferably MSC (The Marine Stewardship Council) certified. To get MSC certified, the raw materials have to meet several uncompromising international standards for sustainable fishing. This proves our dedication to a more traceable fishery.

Since overfishing is undoubtedly a threat to our oceans, we only collaborate with fisheries meeting strict standards for the well-being of the oceans and the species living in them. Sustainable sourcing requirements are incorporated into all our procedures and risk assessments. This secures sustainable raw materials, no matter the certification.

S for Social

We want to do good. For the planet, and the people we share it with. We have only just started, but our goal is to create a healthy work environment for all people involved in our business. This involves guidelines for our suppliers stretching way beyond quality and food safety.

Our company affects everyone around us. From investors and factory neighbors to the people working on the fishing vessel and the family eating our products. Let’s make sure we affect their lives in a good way.

We are a Sedex member and committed to being a responsible and sustainable business. In 2023 our factory in Norway achieved the certification of SMETA 4-pillars. Using Sedex tools and services helps our company improve our responsible business practices.

Making seafood accessible

The ingredients we produce are included in a wide range of products. You can find them in a high-end restaurant in France, at your local Spanish grocery stores, or a dinner table in Western Africa. We make affordable seafood ingredients to ensure nutritious flavoring is accessible throughout the global food market.

Food safety

We work closely with our partners to find the best solutions in all aspects of our business. Right now we cooperate with the technology producers to electrify the drying process and recover the energy. This doesn’t only benefit energy efficiency, but also food safety.

As a producer of natural seafood ingredients for everyday meals worldwide, we take our responsibility for food safety seriously. In addition to strict internal routines, we have requirements for third-party certification, such as GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative). We carry out extended supplier audits if this is not in place. Luckily, we only work with a small number of selected suppliers – which provides us overview and influence.
